Amidst the ongoing CoVID-19 pandemic we happened to hear the melancholic news of George Floyd’s death. This racist violence incident has drawn the attention of the world. Public figures, famed personalities and stars have not forgotten to demand justice for George Floyd. Here we discuss about the opinions, which some of the famed personalities expressed on this horrendous and sorrowful incident.

Barack Obama

44th U.S. President Barack Obama made a statement on the death of George Floyd on social media. He started the statement mentioning some messages he had received following the incident. Afterwards he expressed his view.

“It’s natural to wish for life ‘to just get back to normal’ as a pandemic and an economic crisis upend everything around us. But we have to remember that for millions of Americans, being treated differently on account of race is tragically, painfully, maddeningly ‘normal’, whether it’s while dealing with the health care system, or interacting with the criminal justice system, or jogging down the street, or just watching birds in a park”

Thereafter he made a strong statement. He said that this shouldn’t be normal in America in 2020. He also mentioned, “If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives up to its highest ideals, we can and must be better.”

Also he invited to work together to create a ‘new normal’ in which the legacy of unequal treatment and bigotry no longer infect the institutions and hearts.

Obama called for real change after the statement. “..Educate yourself and know who you’re voting for. And that’s how we are going to hit them.

Michelle Obama

The Former First Lady didn’t forget to join with her husband in delivering a message to the world. She started off her statement saying that she was pained by the recent tragedies.

“Racism is a reality that so many of us grow up learning to just deal with. But if we ever hope to move past it, it can’t just be on people of colour to deal with it. It’s up to all of us, — Black, white, everyone — no matter how well meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out…”

Oprah Winfrey

‘The Queen of All Media’, African-American Oprah Winfrey shared a deep thought on the incident. First, she mentioned that the incident has sunk her heart deeper. She also said that she had not been able to get the image of the knee on Floyd’s neck out of her mind.

Then she delivered a strong message. “If the largeness of a soul is determined by its sphere of influence, George Floyd is a mighty soul. #GeorgeFloyd : We speak your name. But this time we will not let your name be just a hashtag. Your spirit is lifted by the cries of all of us who call for justice in your name!”

Beyonce

Beyonce expressed her opinion in a different way. She created a petition demanding justice for George Floyd. She delivered her message along with the petition on her personal Instagram account. “If you want to demand more charges brought on all those involved in the death of George Floyd, click the link in my bio to sign the petition.”

Rihanna

Being devastated and angered following the incident Rihanna addressed, “watching my people get murdered and lynched day after day pushed me to a heavy place in my heart!” At the same time she raised her voice to call out the injustice served about this incident.
